Early spring snow too tricky for drivers

Today’s snowfall made for some tricky driving in the northern hills.

Even though plows were out on Highway 85, this video, sent to us by Buck Lovell, shows several vehicles crashed or just stuck off the road because of the icy conditions.

Lovell says it surprised drivers because the snow came on fast; turned to slush and then froze in spots.

Buck Lovell is the senior editor at; and also has Lovell Photography & Design.  He is also a senior editorial contributor to several motorcycle industry magazines.

BHSU staff don hats to support reading day

BHSUIn recognition and support of Read Across America Day commemorating Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Black Hills State University officials don “Cat in a Hat” headgear while visiting the state Capitol on Monday. Tom Wheaton, Class of ’87 and director of alumni, Sandy Arseneault, Class of ‘84 who is serving as president of South Dakota Education Association, Steve Meeker, Class of ‘84 and vice president for University Advancement, and BHSU President Kay Schallenkamp, noted the importance of motivating children and teens to read and discussed their favorite Dr. Seuss books. Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually sponsored by Random House and the National Education Association (NEA). An estimated 45 million students, parents, and educators celebrated Read Across America this year.
